Second Annual Heart Health Day with the Stone Crabs

July 12, 2011

Port Charlotte, FL - Fawcett Memorial Hospital and our Charlotte Stone Crabs will, once again, team up to raise awareness about heart disease on Saturday, July 23, 2011.  Our home team will be sporting red uniform jerseys at the game again this year  in recognition of heart health.  Throughout the game, fans will have the opportunity to bid on the actual jerseys worn by their favorite players during the game.  The jersey auction was a huge success last year, raising over $1,000.00 to help fight heart disease, and enabling fans to own their very own piece of local sports memorabilia.

According to the American Heart Association, approximately 785,000 Americans have a first heart attack.  Another 470,000 who have already had at least one heart attack, have another attack.  These grim statistics help explain why heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in our country.  The good news:  many of the risk factors that lead to heart disease can be reduced by lifestyle changes.  At the game, Fawcett staff will be offering free blood pressure checks, along with lots of information about lowering your risk for heart disease.

Tickets for the game are on sale now.   For just $10.00, fans will receive a ticket to the game, a FREE Stone Crabs baseball hat, FREE blood pressure screening, cardiac health information and full access to all the amenities at our beautiful Charlotte Sports Park.   Proceeds from the jersey auction and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the American Heart Association.  Come out to the Sports Park for a fun night with Fawcett and the Stone Crabs!  Call 941-206-HITS and ask for the Heart Health Day tickets today.
