Fawcett Memorial Hospital Announces Multi Phase Renovation and Expansion

Port Charlotte, FL (June 23, 2016) – Fawcett Memorial Hospital, an HCA West Florida facility, is pleased to announce a multi-phase hospital expansion and renovation.  The $21 million project will include expansion of the current Cardiac Catheterization Lab, the creation of 20 additional private patient rooms on the second floor, and a four-level parking garage.

Since its founding in 1975, Fawcett has been providing nationally recognized, quality care to the community.  Over the past several years, the hospital has experienced higher volumes and a growing need of patients seeking care. The project will allow Fawcett to respond to this growth and continue to improve the health of the community it serves.

“Fawcett has experienced an increasing demand from the community for services over the past three years,” said Steven Shell, MD, chairman of the board of trustees at Fawcett.  “This expansion and renovation strives to meet that demand while expanding our campus footprint to be better accessible to patients and the community.”

The Cath Lab expansion will add a third lab, additional holding bays, and ancillary support space in approximately 5,754 new square feet on the first floor of the hospital.  With the success of cardiac catheterization as an unparalleled diagnostic and treatment tool, the expansion will allow the cath lab team to better accommodate growing patient volumes, improve holding times and provide a better patient experience.

"We continue to see positive outcomes for our cardiac patients from around the region,” said CEO, Bill Hawley.  “We've seen extensive growth in the interventional areas of the cardiac program and need to grow to meet both the current demands and future growth of our area.”

The renovation of approximately 16,236 square feet of the hospital's second floor will add an additional 20 private patient beds, increasing the hospital’s total to 257 licensed beds.  In addition, a new four story parking garage will add 350 parking spaces to improve capacity for the hospital's patients and visitors.

“This expansion is a major investment in the health and well-being of the residents of Charlotte County, as well as supporting the Parkside CRA vision of creating an active, healthy community.  We support Fawcett’s mission and dedication to continually provide high quality care,” said Lucienne Pears, Director of the Charlotte County Economic Development Council. “I think it’s a reflection of our community’s growth, and with growth comes the ever-increasing medical needs of the population.”

Construction of these projects is planned to begin later this fall.
