Port Charlotte, FL – Fawcett Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the addition of leading cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. John McKinney to its cardiac team. McKinney joins a staff of three other cardiothoracic surgeons, Dr. Allesandro Golino, Dr. Richard Peterson and Dr. Ronald Smith with Riverview Cardiac Surgery, who are ranked in the top 5 percent in the nation for clinical excellence in heart surgery.

“I am impressed with the high level of quality cardiac care at Fawcett and committed to continuing to excel in this long standing tradition of precision and excellence,” said McKinney. “We have an experienced team in place here, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to build on the program’s reputation for quality and providing great service to patients.”

“We have an unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of our patients and providing them with the best care available. We welcome the experience and vision Dr. McKinney brings to our program,” said Dr. Allesandro Golino, Medical Director of Cardiac Surgery at Fawcett.

Dr. John McKinney is a board certified cardiothoracic surgeon specializing in surgical techniques of the heart and lungs, and has developed a high interest in cutting-edge minimally invasive procedures.

After attending Miami University in Ohio, Dr. McKinney completed his medical training at Ohio State University. He completed his general surgery training in Cincinnati, and his cardiothoracic surgical residency at the University of Louisville. Accolades from training include the John W. Price Award for undergraduate instruction while at the University of Louisville and the Resident Research Award for his work at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Dr. McKinney has subsequently added to his diverse and extensive experience following his move to his native state of Florida in 1994. In addition to serving the Brevard county community as a heart and lung surgeon, he established himself as a leader of the medical staff at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where he served as Medical Staff President, Chairman of the Department of Surgery, and Chairman of Critical Care.

Fawcett Memorial Hospital is the area’s only Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention). The hospital’s new open heart program will support and enhance the other cardiovascular services that are already offered at the hospital, which includes elective and emergent percutaneous angioplasty, state of the art coronary imaging services, and expert cardiologists, radiologists, and clinicians.
